(HISTORY)


Evoke was formed in 1991 in England as an initiative that would work with theatre and masks.Now based in Spain, since 1998 it´s path of work has deepened and grown to include sculpture,drawing,painting,language and essentially the art of gesture.

During 1991 and 1998 it worked with Portal productions, The Rose Theatre Company,The Moving Word Theatre Company,The Very Moving Festival Company,(London) Janustheaterwerk ( Holland ) and amongst other theatre Schools, The Guilford School of Acting.

It´s masks have been used in the plays King Lear , The Tempest, Hamlet (Shakespear),The Orestia (Aeschylus),The Mahabaratha ( Indian Myth.), Animal Farm (Orwell),Peronnick (Greek Myth.) etc... Evoke´s masks have been exhibited and used in Europe, Eastern Europe,Scandanavia,Canada,Taiwan and South Africa.

Glenn Caulfield

Founder member of Evoke, was born in South Africa(1958),where he trained as musician in jazz guitar (The Jazz School of Music Capetown) and classical violin (Trinity college London 1981-1988).He began his career in theatre as a musician and studied mime and physical theatre in Italy, Switzerland and London. Since then he has performed and taught theatre and mask work in Europe,Poland, Croatia,Slovenia,Great Britian,India and South Africa. Amongst others, past teachers have been; Lorna Marshall (Translator of the Actor Adrift by Yoshi Aido London), Michael Chase (The Mask Studio England ) Gertraud Goodwin (Lapwing Studios Sussex), Allegandro Marcette (Commedia dell Árte Italy ).

Since living in Spain he has worked for La Universidad de Magisterio de Segovia ( Training teachers english through theatre skills), La Crisalída ( training actors in gesturework), Proyecto Astrea( training adults through theatre and sculptural skills),Casa Tobias( working with special needs people through sculpture and painting), La Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (training engineering and architecture students through theatre, sculpture and drawing skills) and Memory ( training musical theatre actors in gesture through maskwork) .
